Trails and Grounds
The Main Entrance (High Street) gates that access the Sanctuary Grounds and trails automatically open at 9 am and close promptly at 5 pm daily. Once closed, these gates DO NOT open until the next day.
Birdsacre’s trails also can be accessed from the South Trails Entrance off Deerfield Road from sunrise to sunset.
The Sanctuary Grounds - the Birds’ Part of the Sanctuary - open from 9 am to 5 pm, are designated as a quiet area and dog-free zone for the comfort of our Avian Ambassadors. This is home for our Ambassadors and they appreciate your consideration. Thank you for respecting the needs of the birds and allowing them quiet time after hours.
Dogs are welcome on all our 6+ miles of trails except in the Sanctuary Grounds, as marked around the enclosures.

Ambassador Tours
Check back in the spring of 2027 for information about upcoming on-site Ambassador Tours. During the winter, you are invited to take a self-guided tour of our Ambassadors from 9 am to 5 pm. In the colder months, some of our residents need more warmth; these enclosures will be bundled up with windows for our birds to view visitors. Our year-round Maine birds, like Cooper the Barred Owl, often may be seen in their enclosures enjoying the outside winter weather.
Nature Discovery Center and Store
The Nature Discovery Center and store are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm.
